July 2000

I retired in July 2000 and started German Business Translations. The list of my clients largely

reflects my area of expertise – manufacturing, machine tools, measuring equipment and

engineering materials. My clients include Bilz Werkzeugfabrik, Bombardier, Climax

Molybdenum Co., Ex-Cell-O Machine Tool Co., Faro Technologies, Faro Technologies,

Friedrich Remmert GmbH, K. Jung GmbH, Trumpf Laser Technology Center, V.P. Schrick and

Zoller, Inc. I have also translated a great deal of material dealing with German prototype and

model railroad material for use on my personal website.

Bilz Werkzeugfabrik - manufactures unique thermal tool holding systems designed for use on

automotive transfer lines. The company is represented in the U.S. by Reynolds Machine & Tool)

Bombardier (Berlin, Germany) – Major German designer and builder of electric locomotives.

Climax Molybdenum Company - When working for the Climax Molybdenum Company’s

Technical Information Department from 1977 to 1985, I translated numerous German

metallurgical papers and reports.

Ex-Cell-O Machine Tool Co. - designs and manufactures high speed horizontal machining

centers used by the automobile industry.

Faro Technologies - builds computerized measuring arms and software for quality control

systems used by the automobile industry.

Friedrich Remmert GmbH (Löhne, Germany) – Designers and builder of specialized

warehousing and materials processing facilities for industry.

K. Jung GmbH – designs and builds high precision CNC grinding machines. This company is

represented in the U.S. by United Grinding.

Trumpf Laser Technology Center – manufactures a wide range of laser welding equipment used

to weld automotive sheet metal components.

V.P. Schrick, Inc. – a high technology that, among other things, is investigating the use of

ceramic materials for inlet and exhaust valves in internal combustion engines.

Zoller, Inc. - designs and manufactures tool presetters, shrinkfit tool holders, measuring

equipment.

July 1990 – July 2000 - Public Relations Manager

Wrote new product releases, feature articles and other news releases for the agency’s clients and

placed these with the metalworking and manufacturing publications. Worked closely with trade

press editors to determine their editorial requirements so that articles could be tailored precisely

to meet the editors’ needs. Translated German documents for clients in the machine tool and

industrial laser industries. Set up press conferences for clients at major trade shows.

1989 – 1990 - Senior Editor

Writer of feature articles on a wide range of metalworking and manufacturing technologies,

many of which applied to the automobile industry. Reportage of industrial press conferences.

1985 – 1990 - Freelance business

Established a successful freelance technical writing business after the Climax Molybdenum

Company’s Ann Arbor laboratory was closed. Worked with business and industrial clients to

generate publicity material, technical articles, edit a newsletter covering electronic materials and

write and produce a range of brochures. Worked with graphic artists and printers to prepare

clients’ brochures, newsletters and other publicity material.

1977 to 1985 - Director of Technical Information

Worked with the company’s metallurgists and other technical personnel to write and publish a

number of newsletters and a quarterly magazine. Wrote technical articles, news releases. Worked

with trade magazine editors to place the company’s publicity material. Translated German

metallurgical papers.

Photo reportage of sports car racing. Articles about model railroading. Analog and digital

photography. I wrote the book "The Berlinetta Lusso, a Ferrari of Unusual Elegance", which has

been reprinted.

Fluent in reading, writing and speaking German. Member of Michigan Translators & Interpreters

Network.

Happily married 26 years; two children.
